The 2025 Great American Cleanup, hosted by askHRgreen.org, was held on March 28-29, 2024 in Hampton Roads. Local partners were able to recruit volunteers at over 300 cleanup locations. This map depicts the results of the work of a record-breaking 3,400 volunteers across the region who filled almost 5,200 bags with litter from parks, stream beds, parking lots, and more. There were also a few beautification projects, including painting trash cans. The total weight of trash collected among all the locations was over 135,000 pounds or 68 tons!
On the map, the circles indicate where the individual cleanup events took place. The color of the circle represents the type of cleanup, whether land-based or water-based. The localities are symbolized by the total weight of litter collected (click the legend button to view the amounts).
