The 32nd Annual Virginia GIS Conference (GeoCon) was held at Kingsmill Resort near Williamsburg on November 6-7, 2024. The event is sponsored by the Virginia Association of Mapping and Land Information Systems (VAMLIS). Over 300 GIS professionals and students from across Virginia and beyond attended the conference to network with their peers and learn about GIS work going on throughout the Commonwealth.
The Map Gallery competition featured both traditional posters/maps and web mapping application categories with student and professional divisions. The HRPDC’s FishSwimPlay.com website won Best Web Application in the professional division.
FishSwimPlay.com was initially developed as the public outreach component of the Regional Strategic Plan for Public Access to Waterways in Hampton Roads in 2018. The website was recently redesigned and updated to use newer technology. It contains an inventory of public access sites to water, public parks, and trails in the Hampton Roads region. The site features various filters and search capabilities to locate recreation sites of interest and was built to be mobile responsive as well.
