Water is essential to life, yet we often take it for granted. From hydrating us to driving industries, water is at the core of everything we do. Hurricane Helene’s recent devastation serves as a powerful reminder of how critical clean, safe water is. In the storm’s hardest-hit areas, schools remain closed, hospitals struggle to operate, and businesses are unable to open—all due to the lack of water.
On October 17, 2024, "Imagine a Day Without Water" asks us to pause and consider what life would be like without basic water services. Imagine no morning shower, no cup of coffee, no flushing toilets. Take a moment to reflect on how much we rely on water and how important it is to invest in our water infrastructure to protect future access.
Right now, some Hampton Roads families are struggling to pay their water bills due to financial crises. No one should have to choose between taking a child to the doctor or paying for water. This is where the Help to Others (H2O) program steps in. H2O provides one-time financial assistance of up to $500 to help families keep their water running during times of hardship. Administered by HRPDC and HRSD in partnership with The Salvation Army, 100% of donations go directly to helping our neighbors in need.
On October 17, take time to reflect—and take action. By donating to the H2O program, you can ensure that every family in Hampton Roads has access to this basic necessity. To donate, visit www.shareH2O.org. Every drop helps.
